DV Track & Field 2007 Season News

  • Boys 4th & Girls 7th at 2007 State Meet

    May 13, 2007

    The DV Boys Team finished 4th in this year's State Meet at Glendale Community College. The Skyhawks scored 45 with the help of an outstanding group of athletes. Senior Marcus Patterson led the way, scoring in all 4 of his event: 2nd in the 200m and 4x400m relay and 3rd in both the 100m and the 4x100m relay. Bryce Cooper also participated in both the relays as well as finishing 2nd in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles. The pole vault was a big event for the Skyhawks with Ryan Jones and Jared Ritter going 6th and 7th to score for the team. And senior Taj Madison added a point with his 8th place finish in the long jump.

    The girl's team faired well placing 7th overall at the state meet. The Skyhawks were led by sophomores Carrie Jarnagin and Sam Rassmussen who placed 4th together in the 4x400m relay and 7th in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles and 6th in the 400m respectively. Rassmussen also anchored the 2nd place 4x800m relay team. Senior Cori Whitson was runner up in the pole vault and teammate Lexi Lundberg finished 3rd behind her.

  • Ryan Jones' Region Winning Pole Vault

    May 4, 2007

    Watch Ryan's last successful jump to win the pole vault in this video. Also a few triple jumps from the girls and all heats of the boys 300m Intermediate Hurdles, where 4 Skyhawks qualified for tonight's finals. More action in store tonight.

  • DV Off to Great Start at Northwest Regionals

    May 3, 2007

    Deer Valley had a great showing at the prelims for the Northwest Region on Wednesday night at Deer Valley HS. Junior Ryan Jones had a BIG day. He qualified for the 110HH final, placed 5th in the long jump and won the pole vault. Congratulations Ryan - Northwest Region Pole Vault Champ!

  • 5A track finals move to GCC

    May 3, 2007

    Don't forget that the State Meet has been changed from ASU to Glendale Community College next week. GCC is at 59th Ave and Olive. There's an article in the Republic about it:

    For the first time since 2001, the Class 5A track and field championships will be held at Glendale Community College next Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, ending a relationship with Arizona State University.

     

    Meet director Dave Shapiro said he feels the event will run smoothly in Glendale.
